Our History
The idea of a Fostoria, Ohio based elevator company came after Harold Davis, one of the companies original founders, was asked in 1920 by a local businessman to convert his hand-operated elevator to an electrically operated device. Davis was successful in creating a conversion unit that was cheaper than constructing a new electrical elevator, and with his colleague Paul Newcomer (both then working at the Fostoria Sales & Contracting Co.) they began to install them throughout Ohio in 1921, marking the foundation of Davis & Newcomer Elevator Company.

The company was bought in 1968
by Rikhard Laiho (on the right in the adjacent picture)
who has since retired. Since 1999 it has been ran by his son, Pete Laiho
(on the left). We currently perform service, repair, and
modernization for over 1100 elevators at churches, schools, businesses and factories in the non-metropolitan areas of Ohio.
